April

Here are the walks for April

Friday 5th April, 10.30, starting from El Canton, on the MU-9-A. A circular route of 8.5Km, height gain 190m.

Meet in the El Canton village square to depart at 10.30, walking mostly on unmade roads with short stretches of tarmac; all of the climbing is in the first quarter of the route. There is an option on the return leg for taking a stroll down a fairly rough barranco, but those not inclined to do this may continue on track and road. The walk should take about 3 hours, getting us back in time for lunch. We have made arrangements for those who wish to have a menu del dia to dine at Manolo’s Restaurante Rincon de Blas, which is on the left, about 100m from the village square on the road to Algueña. Manolo charges €8.00 for his menu del dia and can seat a maximum of 30 people. So, if you would like to take lunch please let me know by mid-day Wednesday the 3rd April so that Manolo will know how much shopping to get in!

Friday 19th April, 10.00, starting from the centre of Hondón de los Frailes. A circular walk of 9.5 Km, height gain 248m. This is the RBL fund raising walk, for which donations are requested.

Meet near Bar Veintiocho/the Ayuntamiento in the centre of Hondón de los Frailes to depart at 10.00, walking mostly on metalled roads and unsurfaced roads with a small amount of walking on narrow tracks. We will leave the village on a metalled road that runs parallel to the main Albatera road to begin the climb. Once on the hillside, we will move onto tracks and unmade roads to cross the flank of the hill in a WNW direction until we descend on a metalled road, opposite the Los Serranos pipe factory and return to the village along the old Hondón de las Nieves road. The walk should take 3 to 3.5 hours, getting us back in time for lunch. Veintiocho is reserved for lunch and the menu del dia is €13.00. If you would like to participate in this walk please let me know, so that I may rope in additional walk leaders if necessary. If you would like to have lunch, please see the attached menu and let me have your choices for lunch by Wednesday, 17th April.

Sunday, 28th April, 0945 to drive from HDLF to the start point or 10.00 from the start point. A circular walk of either 8Km or 11km, depending on your choice on the day, with a height gain of 274m.
Meet near Bar Veintiocho/the Ayuntamiento in the centre of Hondón de los Frailes to depart in vehicles at 0945 to drive to the Parque Montaña, off the Albatera road. (Alternatively, if you know where the parking is at the Parque Montaña drive there directly and be ready to set off at 10.00.)
This walk is mostly on unmade roads and tracks and is quite rough in places with steep ascents and descents on rough tracks that are almost cross country routes. So, it is a bit more demanding than most of our walks, but is interesting and has some wonderful views to compensate for your exertions.

As a menu del dia is not generally available on Sundays and Feast days I have not made any lunch arrangements for this walk.

As ever, well behaved dogs are welcome, but please have them on leads for the single file track sections of our walks to avoid distressing other walkers.

Regards, Phil…
