Last walk until September

“The final walk of the season was held on Sunday 30 Jun.   It was a fairly hot sunny day with clear blue skies.   It was a circular walk taking in areas on both sides of the Albatera road, the CV-873, on mostly  unmade roads and tracks, but the first and last

sections were on tarmac.   We departed from Bar Veinte Ocho,  passed in front of the Ayuntamiento to ascend the road that runs parallel with the CV-873 and from there on up to the top of the ridge.   From Jaime Barbudo’s mirador we made a short descent to a track across the flank of the hill to the CV-873  crossing it just above the 10Km post. After which we did a bit more tracking across the hill before we headed upwards towards Monte Alto. With Hondon now back in sight we went  down the northern slope of the ridge and out towards the top of Camino de los Serranos.  By common consent due to the heat,  we agreed to chop off a 15 minute stretch and turned right down towards the Ermita and back to the centre of the village. All in all this was about 10.7Km and with a height gain of some 406m.   Some of the tracks were  single file and steepish in nature  and, at times,  quite a bit rough underfoot.    The walk took us just over  3 hours, getting us back just after 13.00 in time for a very well earned and thirst quenching drink.    Other members of the Group, who did not participate in this particular walk, joined us for a very enjoyable Sunday Lunch at Veinte Ocho.”
