El Cid Photos

Hi all,

Thirteen intrepid walkers set off on Friday’s more challenging walk and enjoyed the sunshine and cooling North Westerly wind as they climbed up El Cid to enjoy the 360 degree views from the highest point in our local area. The group included David, our first Spanish member, who came along primarily to practice his already good English, nevertheless, he provided us with information about El Cid, both historical fact and legend and some insights into the local flora and fauna. We met just off Jnct 205 of the Alicante – Madrid road and drove up to the small car park at the foot of the massif from where we had a walk plan for a 10Km circular walk. It took us an hour and 25 minutes to cover the first 3 Km, but we also gained a little under 500m in the process! The return should have been about 7Km walking down and around the rear face of El Cid, however the walk leader, soy yo, made a wrong call on the route which added another 5 Km so we covered about 15Km in all, before returning to the cars! nevertheless, the walk was enjoyed by all and all 13 arrived back at the cars in an only slightly elongated group in 5 hours. (I am planning to do the walk again in reverse, so that I can properly find the track that I missed this time!)
