Walk El Agudo: 7th Nov’ 2014

(Ref 303) : El Agudo November 7th 2014

Hi all. This morning at 10.00, 30 walkers and 4 dogs gathered to walk out to the flank of El Agudo, the pointy one, from the Restaurante Fogon.

The sun shone, the wind was much less than forecast as we wended our way gently up the ridge opposite the Fogon until we could see the views out across the plain to the sea. Then we set off in the general direction of Abanilla until we came to the parting of the ways, 6 people and 2 dogs opted to take a shorter route and, led by Jannie and Paul, took a stroll through a hidden valley and back to the Fogon via Barbarroja, covering about 8.5 km in the process.

The rest of the group carried on to the flank of El Agudo and enjoyed the marvelous views over the Plain of Murcia. This was much better than the last time that we did this walk, when we saw nothing because we were in the Clouds! We then returned, also via Barbarroja, to El Fogon having covered 13 km and arriving just after 13.00.

Some people then went off to deal with other commitments whilst a slightly rowdy group sat in the sun on the terrace of the Fogon for a few drinks and the menu del dia. So having taken something over 17,000 steps, according to my pedometer, and enjoyed the exercise we destroyed all that effort with a convivial lunch!

Thank you to Ingrid and Kees for these great pictures.

Next walk will be …

The next walk will be on Friday the 21st November, starting at 10.00 from the centre of El Canton, which is on the MU-9-A between Algueña and Barbarroja. There is street parking, but if you are taking the lunch you can park at Manolo’s Restaurante, which is just on the edge of El Canton as you head out in the direction of Algueña. This walk is only about 8.7 km and has a height gain of about 190m, which is mostly done in one single ascent. However, you get an opportunity to get your legs and lungs in gear before we start the climb and once we get to the top it is almost all level or downhill from there back to El Canton.

I look forward to walking with you again then.
